We are currently finishing the recording of Last Full Measure’s new album Places, Everyone at Cedar Street Studios. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is shaping up to be one of the best albums of this or any year. We are truly honored to be a part of it. Come to Cedar Street tonight to see Brendan Walsleben and LFM, and celebrate this album’s upcoming release.
Also on the bill are the fantastic Turning Violet Violet and the soothing/seething sound stylings of Wildebeast. This show will be the last Second Saturday event of the year, and we will certainly be going out on a high note. Don’t miss it! Click HERE for more information.
This Saturday, the Atlas building (our building) will be hosting our annual party in conjunction with the Philadelphia Open Studio Tours. There will be artists displaying their work on all three floors of the building, and catered food (yum) and drinks galore (yea!). BYO beverages is also encouraged, but not necessary. Up in the studio we will be having a fantastic free show with some amazing bands: TivaTiva, The Landenberg Project, and Lost In Company, and Jaryd Tookmanian of the Mechanicals will be opening up the night. Allegro Lighting will be making everything look phenomenal, and we will partying until we drop. This is going to be a killer time, and remember, there’s no cover for this party so you have no excuse. Come and join us in supporting the arts!!
Our zombie-proof headquarters in beautiful Philadelphia, PA.
We usually enjoy a feeling of relative calm here in at our home base in Philadelphia, but this week has us a little shaken up… quite literally. Tuesday during tracking with Brendan of Last Full Measure we felt the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that was centered in Virginia. On the third floor of our old, brick building it was something to experience as the ground rumbled and our computers, guitars, and bodies rocked back and forth for upwards of 30 seconds. I know, I know… no biggie compared to the other, truly destructive quakes that have been happening all over the world lately. Having lived in San Francisco for a time I was well aware of what was happening as soon as it began and even though it wasn’t my first quake my nerves were rattled, mostly because it was so absolutely unexpected.
Fast forward to today, Saturday the 27th, and we are preparing for a hurricane of the likes we haven’t seen since Floyd in 1999. Because of the size and slow travel of hurricane Irene, massive power outages, flooding, and wind damage are expected. We feel pretty good about our preparedness, and besides, we have plenty to do here in our zombie-proof former casket factory.
Production is in full swing on our two most highly anticipated projects of the year, TivaTiva’s Music for Interior Castles and Last Full Measure’s new full length album. Both projects are exceeding our every expectation and the level of artistry and musicianship on both are truly outstanding. And more than that, they both convey such a sense of time and place- I can only describe them as transporting. And yet, they are very different from one another.
September will be a very exciting month in it’s own right for us here at Cedar Street Presents. We have a fantastic Second Saturday event coming up featuring Sunshine Superman, The Absolute Zeroes and CJ Gallopo. We have some great festivals we are attending, including the Philadelphia Film and Music Fest and Girard Fest, and our bands are scheduled to play some great shows during the month as well. Now all we have to do is get through this last week of August.
Cedar Street is honored to present three amazing bands, each of them with a sound that defies categorization. Let’s just say this: If you love music then this event is for you. Simple as that. Click here for detailed info about the bands and the event.
Along with the great music we are also pleased to present an art show featuring the wonderful and talented Amber Quisenberry and her paintings, photography and collage work. Click here to view the facebook event for Amber’s show.
Saturday, August 13th. The doors open at 7:30 and there will be a $10 cover. All ages and BYO!!!!
TivaTiva has put production on their forthcoming album The Mask on hold to help Daniel turn what would have been a solo effort into a collaborative project. Inspired by the life of 16th c. Carmelite nun and mystic Saint Teresa of Avila, Interior Castles is a multimedia project consisting of 25 paintings and digital images by Daniel, a short film directed by Jonathan Centeno, and an album recorded by TivaTiva. The full project will premier in February of 2012 at A Seed On Diamond Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. TivaTiva is currently in the studio producing the album component for Interior Castles (available as a limited release this July), and need your help to bring this amazing project to life!
Please click HERE to visit their Kickstarter page for more information including a full description of the project. There are a lot of really great incentives available… help TivaTiva attain their goal and you’ll get something great in return. Thanks!!

The excitement is building as we hustle to get ready for tomorrow’s big event. The Mechanicals and The LBG Project have put down some amazing music here in the past few months and we are proud to be hosting their dual EP release party. We would also like to thank The Beekeepers in advance for opening the night. This is going to be one great show!
